Fay Johnson Paul, born on September 2, 1936 on the family farm on Meadow Creek in Rockholds, Kentucky, entered into heaven with Jesus at the age of 88, surrounded by the love of her family.
Fay was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Emery Paul; her parents, Leland and Nona Johnson; her brothers, Granville and Willard Johnson; and her sister, Georgie Terrell.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane Benson (Greg) and Regina Croley (Mark); her cherished grandchildren, Courtney Fay Scott (Josh), Carley Jarboe (Trey), CayCay Vanover (Matt), Emery Paul Benson (Maria), and John Croley; great-grandchildren, Jensen, Evan, Janie Cay, Owen, and Jolie Faith; uncle, Johnny Johnson; brother-in-law, Layman Paul (Aileen); and many cherished nieces and nephews.
On December 24, 1955, Fay married Emery Paul, the love of her life. Their early years together took them to Germany where they had many adventures and collected numerous stories she would share with family and friends. Their devotion to one another was an enduring example of true partnership. Together, they raised two daughters, Diane and Gina. Fay was a devoted wife and mother — always present, always supportive, and always cheering her girls on from the sidelines. She never missed an event, practice, or recital, and was their biggest advocate in all they pursued.
When Emery became ill, Fay’s love and loyalty were unwavering. She remained by his side through every step of his illness, embodying strength and compassion.
After his passing, Fay began working at Ormsby Rental in London, KY, continuing to provide for her family with determination and grace. Steve and Connie Ormsby became like family to her.
Her greatest joy came from her role as a Nanny. Fay was immensely proud of her grandchildren — Courtney Fay Scott, Carley Jarboe, CayCay Vanover, Emery Paul Benson, and John Croley. She cherished every moment with them and, just as she had with her daughters, offered unconditional support, guidance, and fierce love.
Fay had a fire in her spirit — she could be feisty, funny, and fiercely loyal. She was a lover of Jesus, chocolate, her family, and was forever true to the Republican Party. Her love was deep, her presence strong, and her legacy will live on in the lives of those she loved so well.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of Liberty Assisted Living in Maryville, Tennessee, for the compassionate care and friendship they gave to Fay — and for the support they so graciously extended to her daughters.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Friday, June 20, at Ellison Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Bowman officiating.
Interment will be in Johnson Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5:00 till 8:00 pm Thursday, June 19, and 10:00 am until funeral hour Friday, June 20, at the funeral home.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
