Corbin Middle School Physical Education (P.E.) Teacher Jeff Roberson has been named the 2025 Kentucky Middle School P.E. Teacher of the Year by KY SHAPE, which was formerly the Kentucky Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.

“Those of you who know him know that this is a well-deserved honor; JRob pushes students to be their best and has transformed fitness at CMS. He is the absolute best there is! We’re glad that now all of Kentucky knows it, too! Please join us in congratulating JRob for this prestigious honor!” Corbin Middle School wrote on social media.

Roberson taught in North Carolina for four years before moving to Corbin where he has taught at the middle school for the past three years. This past school year, Roberson served as a mentor for a lesser experienced teacher.

Roberson said that he feels incredibly honored to have received the award.

“I want to take a moment to thank My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for without him I could do nothing and for the many people he has placed in my life. To my mentors, thank you for your wisdom, encouragement, and example. To my administration and fellow teachers – especially my Exploratory Team – you make every day a team effort and a joy to show up,” Roberson wrote on his Facebook page.

“I’m proud to represent Corbin Independent Schools and Corbin Middle School, where our students and staff continue to grow and thrive. To my wife, kids and family – your love and support mean the world to me. And to my students, past and present – from Martins Creek School to CMS Redhounds – you are my ‘why.’ You challenge me, inspire me, and remind me daily why this work matters. A special thank you to KY SHAPE and SHAPE America for this amazing award and for continuing to champion health and physical education across our state and nation.”

Gov. Andy Beshear presented Roberson with the award during the KY SHAPE Move Thrive Awards/Conference, which was held June 25-27 in Lexington.

“A good relationship with wellness lasts a lifetime. It starts with us. Kentucky SHAPE energizes P.E. and health teachers so they can continue inspiring students to enjoy movement, maintain wellness and be their best,” the organization wrote about itself on its website.

To be eligible for the award teachers must have a minimum of five years teaching experience in the content area they are applying for and have a degree and certification in teaching. Also, at least 50 percent of their total job responsibilities must involve teaching in the category they are applying for, such as middle school physical education, according to the KY SHAPE website.
