(Column by By Bella Morin, Learn and Earn Intern, Partners for Rural Impact)

My name is Bella Morin, and I am a student at Williamsburg Independent High School who is being granted the platform to talk to you through the “Learn and Earn” program at Partners for Rural Impact. The program director is Ismaila Ceesay, who handles large-scale operations. On a more local scale, it is supported, endorsed, and managed by our very own Mrs. Kayla Henderson at Williamsburg Independent.

I have always been a passionate writer, and I work hard to nurture my creative ability. I hope to take that passion and apply it to the News Journal and our community. I want to explore everything this town has to offer, the good and the not-so-good, to allow others to feel more connected to their home and each other. I feel the Learn and Earn program internship will help me fulfill this goal.

This opportunity allows students the chance to dive into possible career pathways in a more hands-on, community-based manner than what might be offered elsewhere. I am excited to represent my school and serve my community in such a personal way.

I look forward to using the chances afforded to me to better our community and my skill set, and I hope for the chance to open up doors for other students working toward a better tomorrow. I also hope to serve as an inspiration to people who, like me, take any opportunity to try something new and find a passion for life in a small town in all of its endless charm.

I want our town to feel a love of education, communication, hard work, and, most importantly, creativity and positivity.
