The News Journal Baptist Health Corbin Pre-Med Academy welcomes promising local students for third year – The News Journal

Date:

Baptist Health Corbin is proud to welcome its third group of Pre-Med Academy students – a program aimed at mentoring and inspiring future physicians from southeastern Kentucky.

This summer, five outstanding local students – each with a GPA of 3.5 or higher – will participate in the immersive program, gaining hands-on experience and mentorship across multiple medical specialties. All five students are passionate about pursuing careers in medicine, with the shared goal of returning home to serve their communities in the future.

Throughout the program, they will rotate through hospitalist medicine, pulmonary and critical care, primary care, general surgery, sports medicine, and interventional cardiology – both at Baptist Health Corbin and in nearby clinic settings. The experience is designed to expose them to the breadth of healthcare delivery in a rural region while fostering early professional development.

“These students are not only academically accomplished – they’re deeply rooted in this region and want to make a difference here,” said Sarah Bowling, Physician Recruitment Manager and program coordinator. “We see this academy as a long-term investment in the future of healthcare for our communities.”

The Pre-Med Academy is part of Baptist Health Corbin’s ongoing mission to grow homegrown talent and strengthen access to high-quality care throughout Appalachia.
